If you’re planning to go somewhere after COVID-19, whether it’s a road trip or a flight, the “New Normal” demands that you pack these essentials.
Health experts strongly suggest this list of items we’re about to share with you, as they will prevent you from getting sick and safely make your way to your destination without risking yourself and others in the process.
Here are 10 things you should definitely consider packing when you do travel and plan to stay somewhere far from home:
1. HAND SANITIZERS
It’s still highly recommended to wash your hands with soap and water, but when you’re on the go, hand sanitizers are your next best option.
These can come in in gel or liquid, just be sure it doesn’t exceed your baggage allowance. Apart from sanitizers, you should still bring a travel soap, complete hygiene kit and even some detergent for some laundry.
Try to bring your own “everything” so you wouldn’t have to stop over and make purchases or rely on in-flight or hotel toiletries.
Apart from your hands, you should consider cleaning every surface before and after touching them.
While aerosols are not allowed on flights, you can still bring wipes or spray bottles with you.
3. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
You probably first heard of this term on the news that frontline workers are using to keep themselves safe from exposure.
A lot of clothing stores are now selling their own versions of “fashionable” PPE in different parts of the world, that protects from the virus while looking good.
While you don’t have to invest in a medical-grade PPE suit (unless you want to), you want to reduce your contact and exposure as much as possible.
So pack enough clothes so you don’t have to wear the same thing you wore outside, and invest in reusable masks with protective layers.
For extra protection, you can also opt for face shields and even gloves to further reduce all forms of contact.
4. FOOD AND WATER
If you know how long you’d be traveling, try to pack your own snacks, or even meals, so you don’t have to go outside or order food to-go.
Try to have them packed and sealed for heating, and avoid food that easily spoils.
So just pack some biscuits, dried fruit, instant coffee or tea, sandwiches, trail mix or string cheese.
You should also bring your own drinking water in a reusable bottle, so you can just have it refilled when you run out.
5. MEDICINE SUPPLY
If you need supplements or health maintenance, stock up on your supplies.
You should also have a basic first-aid kit in your bag, to relieve symptoms you may experiencing during travel to keep your health in tip-top shape.
Have a digital thermometer to monitor your temperature and perhaps even a travel-sized hot/cold pack that are popular first aid when traveling.
6. CONTACT TRACING JOURNAL
This could differ from place-to-place and what works for an individual, but it’s important to track a journal of everything you did, ate and places you’ve been.
The purpose of this is to make sure that you are well aware of whether you’ve been put at risk or not.
Some ways you can monitor yourself can be done with a notebook, on your digital notes, or even apps that are available in the market for free use.
7. CARRY-ON UV WAND
Similar to disinfectants, UV wands are confirmed to be useful in killing viruses.
While these are made available in airports, hotels and other public spaces, you can also bring your own, if there aren’t any travel restrictions in carrying one with you.
You just have to follow instructions to make sure it’s effective and not putting yourself at risk from UV exposure.
8. INSURANCE DOCUMENTS
Given the current state of the world, some countries impose insurance requirements for anybody going in and out to ensure the health and safety of people.
There are also airlines and travel agencies that promote getting insurance by giving them away for free.
In an era of uncertainty, it only makes sense that you carry both health and travel insurance documents with you just in case anything happens.
9. YOUR OWN COVERS
We’re talking about using your own towels, and even bringing travel blankets and pillows with you.
While airlines and other travel or leisure facilities practice new hygiene protocols, it’s better to be safe than sorry, by just bringing your own things, especially those that make direct contact with your body.
Consider bringing a laundry bag to also separate dirty clothes you used outside from your clean clothes.
10. PORTABLE GADGETS
Last, but definitely not the least, are gadgets.
Technology has become even more essential when it comes to battling COVID-19.
You can use your smartphone to connect to the internet to do all of your transactions digitally like self-check ins, contactless payments, looking for safe travel routes and keeping up with the latest news.
Just make sure you bring your power bank or charger with a dedicated adaptor, depending on the place you’re traveling to, so you stay connected.
We still think it’s much safer to avoid non-essential travel and just stay at home unless absolutely necessary.
